The Oklahoma Teen Book Convention is dedicated to facilitating and celebrating the love of literature and lifelong learning by providing a multifaceted experience of diverse activities in an inclusive and accepting environment for Oklahoma youth ages 12 to 18.

To inspire a generation of readers that are enriched and transformed through active engagement in creative reading, writing, and storytelling as a means of self-expression, communication, developing empathy, and well-being; to be the premier literary festival in the state by elevating Oklahoma as a leader in supporting the growing and diversifying publishing industry of young adult literature.

The OKTBC began as An IDEA in 2013. The first meeting was held in 2014 and the name - Oklahoma Teen Book Con - emerged in 2015. The inaugural event was in Guthrie, OK in the fall of 2017.

The Oklahoma Teen Book Con (OKTBC) is an unincorporated nonprofit association under the nonprofit umbrella sponsorship of the Social Good Fund. The OKTBC is supported by local libraries, grants, vendor sponsorship, and private donations. The team that makes the event happen is comprised completely of volunteers from across the state of Oklahoma.

Check out the highlights from the last OKTBC in 2017.

Adrienne Butler

Adrienne is the Children and Youth Services Coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. She is also the original instigator of this entire sha-bang! Adrienne’s love of young adult literature is matched only by her kind heart, as evidenced by her role as a foster home for the Humane Society.

Rebecca is a librarian at the Norman Public Library Central of the Pioneer Library System. For over 15 years Rebecca has carried on a heavy love-affair with teen fiction. When not reading an epic YA fantasy or darkly gritty dystopian novel, she can be found chasing her adorable bulldogs out of her well loved flower garden.

Meet the 2019 Team

Jenny has been in library service for over two decades. She is the Readers Service Coordinator for the Pioneer Library System. Suanne Wymer, Budget Coordinator

Suanne hales from the Tulsa City-County Library System where she is the Youth Services Manager. Suanne joined the team in mid-2018 and has been a positive influence and solid supporter for the team.

Emily Johnson, School partner liason (Tulsa)

Emily is the Library Media Specialist for Jenks Middle School. Emily loved the first OKTBC so much that she couldn’t wait to get involved! Emily will be working to build a relationship between the OKTBC and the Tulsa area schools.

Phyllis is the teen librarian at the Muskogee Library, a branch of the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System. She is a gamer and was born to love the Chicago Cubs. She is also a one of the hardest working ladies you will ever meet.

Hailey is a Library & Information Studies graduate student at the University of Oklahoma. Hailey also works at the Moore Public Library. Chris Hennes, Videographer/Photographer

Chris is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Specialist at Norman Public Library Central. There he runs two movie making clubs, a video game development club, and also occasionally does actual work. He has no idea what he’s doing at the Teen Book Con. (It’s because you love it Chris - admit it!)
